5 HEALTHY MORNING HABITS – THE BEST WAY TO START YOUR DAY

We all have those mornings when we struggle to get up, wanting to hit the snooze button and snuggle under the duvet. However, starting your day with healthy habits can create a constructive knock-on effect for the rest of the day.

There are so many benefits to being an early riser. After all, the early bird really does catch the worm. The prime advantage is simply having more time in the day which can lead to being more productive, give you more time to be active, allow for a bit of you time and give you the chance to eat adequately.

Here are five healthy morning habits that we recommend that you fit into your day. Let us know if you feel the benefit!

Healthy Morning Habits 1 – Don’t snooze

How can you ensure you stick to a new early-rising routine? The Supersonic Team believe consistency is key, not just with exercise, but also with our nutrition and lifestyle habits, therefore why not try waking up around the same time each day? Snoozing your alarm disrupts your sleep pattern which is unfavourable and can often leave you feeling sluggish. Move your alarm away from arms-reach, perhaps across the other side of the room or even outside of your bedroom door so that you must move to turn it off – encouraging you to awaken as you do.

Healthy Morning Habits 2 – Make a booking

Next, I find waking up is easier when there’s something I must attend. Booking an appointment ensures that I stay committed and I’m motivated to get going. I’m sure our members would agree that our morning classes are an excellent way to start your day – energising circuits, stress-busting yoga and Super60X to name a few. Knowing that you’ve completed your first challenge of the day sets a positive tone thereafter. Alternatively, why not book a personal training session? Damian and Nat can encourage you to stick to your routine by guiding and pushing you to your best ability and they won’t let you skimp out so easily!

Another great idea to make sure that you exercise in the morning is to make sure get your kit bag ready the night before and make sure your gym kit is ready to go. Lay your gym kit on the floor next to your bed so you can put it straight on when you wake up and get in the workout mindset.

Healthy Morning Habits 3 – Create a to-do list

Early to-do lists help me keep my mind set on achieving goals throughout the day. There is nothing more satisfying than being able to tick off that first box on your list. Before anyone else in the household wakes up, before the virtual meetings start or the office phone starts ringing, grab a cuppa or, even better, a glass of water and write your to do list for the day.

Healthy Morning Habits 4 – Hydrate

Our bodies are around 60% water, so good hydration is necessary for alertness, flushing out toxins, promoting healthy weight loss and making sure we can exercise at optimum levels. When you first wake up, it’s likely that you’ll be a bit dehydrated from the night before, so grab a glass of water when you first wake up or with your breakfast. This can help to clear the morning fog and focus your mind, and is essential if you are going to hit the gym…..you’ll have a much better workout than feeling sluggish because you’re dehydrated. Top up your fluid levels throughout the day with plenty of H2O.

Healthy Morning Habits 5 – Eat

Finally, breakfast, no matter what time you eat it, is the most important meal of the day, regardless of your ambitions for the day. It took me a long time to realise that ‘breakfast’ literally means ‘breaking the fast’. The body uses a lot of energy throughout the night for growth and in order to repair, therefore it needs refuelling when you are awake. Make sure you start your day with something healthy which is low in sugar and low in unhealthy fats. Wholegrain cereals and porridge are great (watch out for the sugar content of some cereals, if you’re unsure ask one of the team and we will show you how to work out how much sugar is in your food), eggs and wholegrain toast are another firm favourite, Greek or natural yoghurt with some berries and seeds is definitely a winner, especially if you like something lighter for breakfast. Finally, if you’re someone who struggles to eat breakfast on a morning then try making a juice or smoothie, these are also a good way of topping up your fluid content too.

Try implementing one or two of these healthy morning habits into your lifestyle, once these become a regular routine then add some more. We are positive you will feel the benefit in no time!
