Just because the gym is closed, doesn’t mean we can’t recognise our awesome members! Therefore, we are pleased to announce April’s Member of the Month…….India Luck!
It’s always great to see India’s smiley face when she is at Supersonic. If India is in the gym then you always know she will be working hard, and just because she can’t use the gym at the moment doesn’t mean she isn’t working hard. A regular contributer to our social media channels, India is often posting pictures of her smashing out a 26 miles run, working out at home or even working out with her dog!
Here’s a little bit about India, what motivates her to train and how she is staying focused during the covid-19 lockdown.
1. Why did you join Supersonic Fitness?
I joined Supersonic in May last year, I had been doing a lot of training at home but I wanted to be able to have more freedom in my sessions and the use of more equipment. I also wanted to vary my training. I do a lot of running and cover roughly 100 miles a week, and I wanted somewhere I could go to do a totally different type of exercise. I think Supersonic breaks all the stereotypes I used to believe about gyms. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, it’s hard not to have a smile on your face.
2. Why do you exercise? Do you have any goals you are working towards?
For me, I exercise for my mental well being. I think a lot of people get caught up in exercise being a way to get your body to look a certain way, which is true to a point. However exercise to me is this incredible way to actually make yourself feel elated. It has the ability to change a bad day, to a great day. Let’s face it, no one ever really feels like it. But something I was once taught is action comes before motivation. You have to act in order to gain motivation, I really love that.
To be honest, I’m not really working towards anything. I love the feeling after finishing a really long run, or one of Deena’s brutal Super60 classes. It’s unlike any other feeling.
3. What is your favourite exercise? You seem to love all exercises…..is there anything you actually don’t like?!
I think overall my favourite exercise would have to be running. I love the freedom of it, and that it’s just you and an open road. Forrest Gump kind of stuff. Like how far will my legs take me.
There’s not really an exercise I don’t like but I do have a love/hate relationship with burpees. Especially when you add in a bar and have to jump over that too. As if they weren’t hard enough!
4. How are you staying motivated to exercise during lockdown?
Motivation during lockdown is something I’ve thought a lot about. I’m finding it a really good opportunity to run further and train a lot harder. If you decide to lounge around on the sofa all day, you’re going to feel even worse. I have to always say to myself ‘you never feel worse after exercising’. Don’t get me wrong, some days you will have moments where you realise the enormity of the situation and that’s ok, but as long as you do your bit and follow all the guidelines. Things work themselves out, they always do.
I love Supersonic because it’s not just a gym, it’s a community full of some of the nicest and most interesting people I’ve ever met. The staff are the real heroes though, I couldn’t put a better more knowledgeable group of people in the same building if I tried. You guys are fantastic.
Thank you India, and congratulations on being Member of the Month!
