Super60 is a unique exercise class that we have created here at Supersonic Fitness in York. The concept of Super60 is that you get a full body workout in a short space of time, and boy is this class super (pardon the pun!) effective!
The name, Super60, was created through taking our Supersonic name and combining the class length of 60 minutes with this to create Super60. Since creating this class when we opened in 2019 we have adapted the class and now offer a 45 minute class. Instead of changing the name we decided to keep it as Super60 but add X” which stands for express to create Super60X. Both Super60 and Super60X offer a full body workout to ensure you aren’t missing out on training any areas of the body and include strength training in addition to HIIT training.
What Are The Benefits of Super60?
Super60 includes a mixture of strength training combined with HIIT training.
Strength training is great for increasing lean muscle mass so you become stronger and build up muscle endurance. Strength training may simply involve body weight exercises, or using equipment such as weighted plates, barbells, kettlebells and dumbbells to name a few. Did you know that as you get older your body loses both bone and muscle mass? Strength training is one way in which you can help to retain muscle and bone mass and slow down this process. Letting bone and muscle mass deplete can lead to an increase in injury so it is important to reduce this where possible.
During Super60 we mainly focus on using compound exercises. These are exercises such as press-ups, squats, lunges, rows, deadlifts, etc. They use multi-joint movements and multiple-muscles during the movement pattern. This means you get more ‘bang for your buck’! Want to hit the triceps, shoulders and chest? Then a press-up or chest press does just this….saves time having to do three different exercises!
Cardio training is when you use an exercise to raise your heart rate, by doing this you are using your cardiovascular system to deliver more oxygen to the cells in your body. Your heart is a muscle within your body so like all other muscles this should be worked in order to strengthen and keep healthy. During Super60 we concentrate on using HIIT as the cardio element of the workout. HIIT is super effective at improving your cardiovascular fitness and decreasing body fat. If you’ve not done HIIT training before then quite simply you alternate between short burst of high intensity exercise with lower intensity exercises or rest.
Combining the two ways of training into one short class means that you can get all the benefits over a shorter amount of time. Super60X is the perfect combination for a full body workout in just 45 minutes.
