Infrared sauna 101: everything you need to know

 

“Infrared therapy uses infrared heaters to emit infrared light; experienced as radiant heat which is absorbed by the surface of the skin.”  Confused yet?

Infrared sauna – the benefits

This technology may seem elaborate and advanced (and it is), but the benefits are simple.  25-45 minutes of relaxation in an infrared sauna is widely believed to: burn calories, improve mood, relieve pain, lower blood pressure, improve sleep and reduce stress.  Plus you don’t have to lift a finger in the process – amazing!

So what exactly is infrared?

Infrared light is actually nothing more than heat.  In the same way that visible light has wavelengths ranging from red to violet, infrared light has its own wavelengths also.   These wavelengths actually vary in temperature; with short (or near) infrared waves not even warm.  Conversely, far infrared rays are thermal.  The rays penetrate the skin, to deliver a full range of benefits while you sit back and relax.

The infrared sauna experience

Simply put, Supersonic’s infrared sauna stimulates healing and relaxation.  As the heat from the sauna bathes you with warmth and lowers your stress levels, at a deep level it also warms your joints and muscles, thus increasing the flow of oxygen to the area.  The red light can help you by healing a range of ailments, including physical pain such as aching muscles, spasms and arthritis.  (It is also believed to be much more effective at reducing cellulite than a standard sauna!)  Following a wonderfully relaxing session experiencing all of these benefits, you should drift away with a happy, healthy glow.

We would recommend that you take a warm shower after your sauna and, if you’re feeling brave, follow with a blast of cold water (cool will do!) to leave you feeling invigorated.

How often can I use an infrared sauna?

There is no recommended number of weekly sessions.  It is safe to use an infrared sauna daily, but it really depends on your own personal preference.  However, you will see and feel the benefits sooner if you use the infrared sauna on a regular basis.  Whenever you visit, just be sure to keep well hydrated by drinking plenty of water both before and after your session.
